OrangeRemit is a brand of Celestia Payments Inc. ("Celestia", "we", "us"). We are a money services business registered with the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) under registration number C100001085. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. It applies to orangeremit.com and to the transfer service once your access is opened.
What we collect
- Contact details you give us when you register interest: name, email address and phone number.
- Answers you give in the registration form, such as the country you send to and how you currently send money.
- When you open an account: identity information required by Canadian anti-money laundering law, including your date of birth, address and a government photo identifier.
- Transaction information: amounts, exchange rates, recipient details and bank account or UPI identifiers.
- Technical information needed to operate the site securely: IP address, browser type, and the pages you visit.
Why we collect it
- To contact you about early access and to open your account.
- To verify your identity, which we are legally required to do as a registered money services business.
- To execute, trace and settle transfers with our banking partners in India.
- To detect and prevent fraud, money laundering and sanctions breaches.
- To meet record keeping and reporting obligations under the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act.
Legal basis and consent
We collect, use and disclose personal information with your consent, which you give by registering on this site and, at the time of your first transfer, by accepting the client agreement. Identity verification and transaction monitoring are not optional: we cannot lawfully process a transfer without them.
Who we share it with
We share the minimum necessary information with the banking and payout partners that settle your transfer in India, with identity verification and fraud screening providers, and with our cloud and email service providers. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We may disclose information where we are legally required to do so, including to FINTRAC or another competent authority.
Where it is stored
Records are stored on servers in Canada and the European Union, encrypted in transit and at rest. Information may be processed in a country other than your own by our service providers, and remains subject to the laws of that country.
How long we keep it
Identity and transaction records are retained for at least five years after the end of our business relationship, as required by Canadian law. Registration interest details that do not lead to an account are deleted on request or after twenty four months of inactivity, whichever comes first.
Your rights
You may ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or withdraw consent to marketing at any time. Withdrawal of consent for identity or transaction data means we can no longer provide the transfer service. Write to privacy@orangeremit.com and we will respond within thirty days.
Cookies
This site sets no advertising or tracking cookies. A first party session cookie is used only when you sign in to the transfer service, and it is required for the service to work.
Security
Traffic is encrypted with TLS. Identity documents are stored in a separate encrypted store from transfer data, and access is limited to staff who need it to process your transfer or meet a legal obligation.
